CHAS WILLIAMS
I have been a professional musician since 1979. I play guitar, slide guitars, and dobro. I’m also a producer, arranger, and studio engineer.
I attended two semesters at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, then moved to Nashville in 1979.
As a performer, I toured with Maura O'Connell for 1 1/2 years playing dobro and guitar. In 1991, after The Judds broke up, I worked on the road playing guitar and slide guitar with Wynonna Judd for the first 3 years of her solo career. I then toured the U.S., Australia, and New Zealand for 1 1/2 years [1997- 1999] as a guitarist and dobroist with David Gates (formerly of Bread).
In 1999, I became a member of Nanci Griffith's Blue Moon Orchestra and played with them for 3 1/2 years. I played on Nanci Griffith’s 2001 record “Clock Without Hands” as well as her 2002 live CD and DVD ”Winter Marquee”.
As a songwriter and author, I have written and produced 3 CD's of original guitar and dobro instrumentals. In 1988 I wrote, ”The Nashville Number System”, a book that has, by word of mouth, become the leading resource on the subject. The book is used as a text by several universities, including Belmont University, Liberty University and Lee University.
In 1999 I co-produced and played dobro and guitar on the CD “Sisters Wade” and played dobro on their 2004 record ”Walls Of Time". In 2009 I won the Canadian Aboriginal Music Award (CAMA) for engineering and mixing of Arvel Bird's album "Tribal Suite". I’ve produced, engineered and played on 3 cd’s for renowned folk artist, Ben Bedford; engineered and played on 2 cd’s for Children’s artist, Roger Day; co-produced, engineered and played guitar and dobro on acclaimed singer/songwriter, Sally Barris’ 2007 cd, Restless Soul.
I played dobro and slide guitar on the 2011 album by Stealing Angels and toured in the band.
In 2017, I published his book of 249 cover song chord charts written in the Nashville Number System Gigbook.
I recently started recording a 3rd album with Roger Day at my studio and just finished engineering and mixing an Album by Grammy nominated bassist, Dan Eubanks, from the band Special Consensus.
